Heartbreaking Fate of Harry Potter’s Ford Anglia (Yes, That Flying Car)
The one and only (not really) Mr. Weasley’s Ford Anglia was recently discovered by a fan in an abandoned barn. It may be in shambles now, but it will be restored soon!
Ford Anglia is the best-known car model among Harry Potter fans. Mr. Weasley’s proudest achievement, his Ford Anglia was capable of quite a bit more than your typical family car: it could fly across an entire country, become invisible, bash giant spiders, and even develop an actual conscience to get mad at its poor drivers.
Even though the sentient car didn’t have too much time under the spotlight, it has its place in the fans’ hearts.
It was Ford Anglia that helped Harry and Ron get to Hogwarts when Dobby messed up the 9 ¾ wall, saved the boys from the Acromantulas three years later, and even fought in the Battle of Hogwarts later.
In the movies, there were several cars used to shoot all those scenes, and those cars had very different fates: some were destroyed beyond repair; others went to museums, studios, and private gardens; and some were just… Lost somewhere.
Recently, Sam Hard, a movie car enthusiast and a Harry Potter fan, discovered one of the original Ford Anglias from the set abandoned in a barn. Sam’s been searching for that car for over three years to restore it and add to his collection, so he was all too excited after coming across it basically by chance!
Hard bought the one and only (but not really, since there were like half a dozen of them) Ford Anglia from the Harry Potter set from a guy in Northern Ireland who was the set dress manager for the movies, so there’s no doubt the car’s authentic. But the deal didn’t go as smoothly as you’d think.
Someone noticed the Anglia staying in a private barn, completely abandoned, and notified Sam Hard who was notorious for his desire to find one. The man immediately came to the address but the woman that answered the door didn’t share his enthusiasm and shut the door in Sam’s face. He didn’t give up, though.
Later, Hard returned to the house with his two kids and approached the woman again, explaining how his children are little Potterheads (which was true) and how they would’ve loved to see the iconic Ford Anglia from the set. The woman agreed, and then, it was only a matter of time until Sam struck a deal with the family.
Now, Sam Hard’s an excited new owner of one of the most famous cars in the world, and he’s planning to restore Ford Anglia. He shares the process on his YouTube channel, and if you also want to learn whether Sam’s car will be able to fly and protect his kids, feel free to join him in the restoration journey.
