Harry Potter Reboot Walks Into the Same Trap That Ruined Star Wars
The new actors will have some pretty big shoes to fill, as the memories of the original are still strong.
The news that Harry Potter will be rebooted as a TV series has received a mixed reception from fans. While some agree that such a format would be great to expand on the events of the books, others are very skeptical.
And they bring up the most obvious problem with the new TV series: it simply comes too soon.
With the last installment of the film franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, released in 2011, audiences have had too little time to forget the previous iterations of their beloved characters.
No matter how good the new cast is, they won't be able to compete with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and the others for one reason: the power of nostalgia.
Fans still have them in their minds, and for many, they are the only versions of the characters that are allowed to exist.
In the 10 years that the films have been out, a whole generation of fans has been raised on them, and there is absolutely no way that the new actors are going to replace the previous ones in their minds.
This could have been avoided if the new show hadn't focused on the books and told an entirely new story instead. But the creators decided to go the Star Wars route and milk the established set of characters.
Even Fantastic Beasts did not escape this fate with Dumbledore and Grindelwald, and the TV series will only double down on that.
Lastly, the whole Voldemort storyline feels pretty well beaten after eight movies, and some fans admit that watching it again for seven seasons might prove tiring.
The cast for the show hasn't been announced yet, so fans will have to wait to see the new faces of their favorite characters. The release date is also unknown.
