But everyone was still obsessed with it though.

Throughout the years of its existence, the Harry Potter movie franchise not only gave its fans a series of compelling flicks to rewatch every year, but also a big incentive to start cooking.

The films’ feast scenes later on entailed the creation of myriads of cookbooks designed to teach the devoted fans how to make the famous Butterbeer or rather one of those lavish dishes that were always part of big celebrations at Hogwarts.

Though the food in Harry Potter movies has always been seen more as a decoration and an aesthetically pleasing detail, its purpose is in fact much more profound when it comes to the storyline’s dark plot twists.

As the first movie proceeds to Harry Potter’s official arrival at Hogwarts when so far there isn’t a single sign of trouble, the food indeed appears to be somewhat abundant and rejoicing-coded. This is especially obvious in some scenes full of warm light coming from numerous candles in the Hogwarts dining hall.

That feast was probably one of the last moments of everyone’s carefree life thus foreseeing darker times approaching Harry, his friends, and Hogwarts as a whole.

When the franchise finds Harry learning about Voldemort and diving deeper into his story reconciling with his personal mission to fight the world’s most powerful evil wizard, the food doesn’t look the same anymore.

Big dinners at Hogwarts don’t gleam with vivid colors like they did before, though an exception is made for the Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when Hogwarts in fact has no choice but to boast of its grandness in all aspects in front of other wizarding schools.

Overall, the more the franchise approaches its end, the more sinister those big feasts seem, as going through hard times of big changes and dangers that would threaten its future, Hogwarts doesn’t care that much about the meal that used to be a whole reason to gather together and have fun.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows alienates the main characters from this tradition even more, showing them having a bite on the run just to satisfy their physical needs.

Despite all that, things with the food aren’t that bad in the very end of the franchise. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ final scene features a Chocolate Frog which comes as a reference to Harry’s first ever train ride to Hogwarts where he also discovered the most famous sweet treat of the entire story.

The last movie thus makes it clear that with all the problems being left in the past, food is back on track as one of the happiest moments that brings the characters together once again.
