While the movie has a chance to improve in the long run, this may be yet another sign that the MCU is slowly coming to an end.

With the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the long-awaited conclusion to James Gunn 's trilogy about the adventures of the fan-favorite team of intergalactic misfits, the reviews are finally in.

And the movie seems to have been worth the wait, being praised by critics and audiences alike, although some point out that it may not be as good as the first two installments of the trilogy, though not bad by any means.

It also has the weakest box office opening among the Marvel summer blockbusters, which could be for an obvious reason.

Vol. 3, which grossed $114 million in the U.S. and Canada during its opening weekend, is an improvement over the previous MCU installment, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which grossed $106 million in its first weekend.

But even though it has a better chance in the long run than Quantumania, the numbers are still a bit underwhelming.

This may be due to the fact that the public has grown tired of Marvel movies, as fans have suggested in the comment sections.

They point out that with the increasingly hit-and-miss nature of recent MCU films, people are reluctant to spend their money going to the theater immediately after each new installment of the franchise is released, especially considering the cost of tickets these days.

And since they've arguably been on the decline since Endgame, they don't feel so special anymore.

Fans say that the advertising campaign hasn't helped either, with nothing beyond "it's the one final adventure" statements.

With almost nothing to hint at what the actual story is about, viewers didn't feel the urge to go to the theaters right away to check it out.

While this is good from the perspective of avoiding spoilers, it clearly didn't have the effect it was supposed to.

Finally, maybe audiences are just tired of the never-ending conveyor belt of superhero movies. As other fans point out, the MCU has had a good run and it is a sad but inevitable process that people slowly lose interest in it.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently in theaters.
