Grey's Anatomy Spinoff Idea Leaves Meredith Fans Divided
Grey's Anatomy fans are not ready to say goodbye to Meredith Grey just yet.
The latest mid-season finale became a heartbreaking episode for many fans as Meredith Grey left Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
The character, who has been at the center of the show since episode 1, said goodbye to her friends and colleagues and moved to Boston to find a cure for Alzheimer's.
The actress behind the character, Ellen Pompeo, wrote a beautiful post on Instagram to her many fans, thanking everyone for their support.
The Way Grey's Anatomy Deals With Cheating Is One Of The Show's Biggest Problems
The actress reportedly left the show to work on other projects. In fact, she had been slowly stepping away from the show for several years. Meredith spent most of Season 18 in a coma in a hospital bed. In Season 19, the character appeared in only eight episodes.
However, some fans are not ready to say goodbye to the beloved character. A discussion on the r/greysanatomy Subreddit serves as proof of that. In the discussion, Redditor u/ragy7 pitched their idea of the potential spinoff set in Boston:
"Does anyone else think a Private Practice-type spinoff but set in Boston with Meredith, Jackson, Catherine & Tom Koracick would be a great idea?"
This idea actually makes sense, since Meredith is not the first Grey Sloan doctor to move to Boston. Several fan-favorite characters have moved there for one reason or another.
For example, Jackson Avery, played by Jesse Williams, moved to Boston to take over the Catherine Fox Foundation and work for equality in medical care.
His ex, April Kepner, played by Sarah Drew, moved with him so he could be an active father to their daughter. While in Boston, the fan-favorite couple rekindled their romance, much to the delight of many longtime fans.
The other two characters mentioned by the author of the spinoff idea are Catherine Fox (formerly Avery), portrayed by Debbie Allen, and Tom Koracick, played by Greg Germann. Catherine is Jackson's mother and founder of the Catherine Fox Foundation. Tom Koracick is an attending neurosurgeon at the foundation. These characters are loved by many fans, so the spinoff could be a success. And some fans absolutely adored the idea , while others rallied for the network to finally leave Ellen Pompeo alone.
Fans noted that Ellen Pompeo didn't exit the ABC medical drama to start starring in its spinoff.
"People seriously don't respect the decisions actors make. Their life is more important than characters!" a fan wrote.
