For six seasons Gossip Girls fans were waiting to find out which Upper East Sider was torturing other characters with their anonymous blog. But the big reveal disappointed many viewers and at least one star.

The final season of Gossip Girl showed how important Dan Humphrey had been to the plot. The writer revealed that he was the notorious Gossip Girl and his intention had always been to write himself into the Upper East Side and win Serena van der Woodsen. And judging by his happily-ever-after marriage with Serena, he succeeded.

However, The CW show fans met this reveal with resistance. The general consensus had it Dan being Gossip Girl didn't make sense. Fans created long lists of reasons why Dan couldn't be Gossip Girl, starting from how surprised and at times even shocked he was finding things out of his own blog, and ending with him not being able to know or do things Gossip Girl did.

"Dan being Gossip Girl makes no sense at all," a fan wrote on Reddit. "It felt like they had one last season to go and they had to pick someone last minute."

The fans are not alone in this opinion. The actor behind Dan Humphrey, Penn Badgley, made sure fans knew he agreed with them. The actor told People that his character being the Gossip Girl "didn't make sense at all."

"It wouldn't have made sense for anybody. Gossip Girl doesn't make sense!" he said, laughing.

And though the actor stated further that Dan being a writer added some plausibility to the reveal, the ending of Gossip Girl definitely struck a bad chord with him. The actor has never minced his words when talking about the show or his character. He criticized Dan for being a douchebag and revealed that he was not proud of his work on the project (via).

On top of that, the interview with People was not the first time the actor criticized the writer's decision to make Dan Gossip Girl. He told Vulture that the reveal felt unrealistic and strange to the cast. He also said in an interview with Andy Cohen that to really be Gossip Girl, Dan would have to be "a bipolar, transgender, schizophrenic, obsessive-compulsive, incredible manager of time." Gossip Girl fans definitely agree with that.
