All thanks to the author’s plans — and they seem to be way too ambitious given the circumstances.

George Martin is probably never getting his fans’ trust back ever again, but this doesn’t give him any trouble while thinking about what’s about to come next in his career — and the writer’s plans go way beyond The Winds of Winter.

The sixth instalment of A Song of Ice and Fire has been in the works for about 15 years now, yet Martin seems to be more worried about another project which at some point was supposed to serve for HBO’s shelved spinoff.

A Song of Ice and Fire is Far From Being Finished, but Martin Already Has Plans for Another Book

Apparently, it’s not only Martin himself who inspires HBO to explore the vast lands of Westeros, but it’s a mutual process. As the author revealed in his Not a Blog back in October, the studio once had an idea of dedicating an entire new spinoff to the history of Braavos and eventually put it off for an undetermined amount of time, yet it got stuck in Martin’s head for way too long.

The author stated that he never let the idea go and now needs to “write that story about Braavos we were developing for HBO. They shelved that one a couple of years back, alas, but that does not mean I won’t go back to it… after WINDS OF WINTER is done, of course.”

Braavos Spinoff is a Great Idea, but It May Take Too Long to Arrive to the Screens

Since Martin made it clear that the book about Braavos won’t arrive earlier than his long-suffering The Winds of Winter, Game of Thrones fans will surely need to get some more patience while waiting for new installments.

It already took Martin more than a decade to elaborate the sixth book of the series, yet it's not even finished and the writer himself isn’t that sure that one day The Winds of Winter will see the light.

Apparently, things will get even more complicated with the Braavos-based book, so at some point HBO might in fact consider bringing the story to the screen without Martin’s significant help.
