General Hospital’s Steve Burton Opens Up About Coming Back After Controversial Exit
Fans are happy to see Jason back.
One of the great things about any soap opera is how easy it is to bring back any character. No matter what fate they faced when it was decided to write them off, soaps are known for the most unexpected and absurd twists, so bringing someone back from the dead is a very real possibility that viewers are prepared for.
The only problem is that bringing back a beloved cast member can be much more difficult than coming up with a story for the character's survival. Depending on why the actor left in the first place, they may be happy to be back, or refuse the offer altogether. Fortunately for General Hospital fans, Steve Burton agreed to return even after his controversial exit.
Why Did Steve Burton Leave General Hospital?
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, all workplaces were trying to find a solution that would protect their workers from getting hurt, but still allow business to continue. While many resigned to work from home, some industries could not physically operate that way, so they had to be extra cautious but come in person.
Like any other television production, General Hospital was affected by this situation. Knowing how fast-paced the daily production of soap is, the networks could hardly afford to take a break from filming. So as soon as they could, they got the actors back on set, working under strict COVID protocols.
Steve Burton, who has portrayed Jason Morgan since 1991, was forced to leave General Hospital 30 years later due to his refusal to take the COVID vaccine. However, now that set protocols are back to normal, Burton has made a comeback and was given a very warm welcome.
“It’s been amazing to come back to the show. It’s always felt like home. I love the cast, I love the crew, and life is amazing right now. It really is, truly,” the actor said during the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
Viewers were just as excited to see Jason back, not only speculating about his character's misdeeds in his absence, but also trying to guess who Burton's Jason would end up with romantically. Having been in Port Charles for so long, the character had a fair share of old flings to return to.
If you are curious to see where the story takes Jason now and which pairing will win out as he fully settles back into Port Charles life, be sure to tune in to General Hospital Monday through Friday on ABC.
