Fans are losing their trust in showrunners as each day passes.

Continuing a show that has been on the air for over 60 years is an accomplishment in itself.

Not a single fan will deny the merits of the General Hospital team, who continue to do whatever it takes to keep viewers entertained with new episodes every weekday.

But a big anniversary calls for a big celebration. And what is happening with the show now, two weeks into its 61st year, is more likely to disappoint viewers than bring any joy.

The Nurse's Ball, which was considered a failure by the majority of fans this year, was just the cherry on top of many promises that have yet to be fulfilled.

The audience still remembers how they were promised "veteran" comebacks and reappearances of former characters, but they are still nowhere to be seen.

Instead, viewers are stuck with storylines that are too long to care about at this point, and characters saying the same things over and over again, in different words.

There is an opportunity for General Hospital to prepare a whole year of celebrations, with the sweep months (May, August, November, February) carrying the bigger events.

What would seem to be a perfect solution could backfire because of how impatient the audience has become.

While some fans argue that there is a chance to save the current storylines, others cling to nostalgia and only want to stick around for the iconic comebacks.

One character that fans are particularly interested in seeing is Tracy Quartermaine. She is played by Jane Elliot, who originated the role in 1978 and has played it on and off since then.

Her return was announced back in January during ABC's portion of the Winter Television Critics Association press tour, and ever since, fans haven't been able to stop theorizing about what her upcoming storyline might be.

According to co-head writer Dan O'Connor, the Nurse's Ball was only meant to be a jumping-off point, so General Hospital fans will just have to be patient and wait a little longer to see what's in store for them.
