Forget Oppenheimer, Another Iconic Nolan $100M Blockbuster Drops on Hulu March 1
There is no other war movie like it.
Summary:
- Dunkirk is a historical war thriller written, directed and co-produced by Christopher Nolan.
- The film chronicles the evacuation of French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk.
- Dunkirk became the highest grossing World War II film before being surpassed by Nolan's own Oppenheimer.
No matter how many movies have been made about World War II, people are still just as interested in going to the theater to see the big-budget productions that tell the stories of the heroes who fought to keep the world at peace.
Of course, many viewers appreciate the real stories behind the scripts, but that's not the only reason the genre is so popular. People tend to appreciate all the thought that goes into making these movies. From the set and costume design to the choreography of the battle scenes, the production teams take extra care to do justice to the story.
One of the most notable World War II films to date is Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. Until July 2023, and the release of another of the director's masterpieces, this film was crowned as the highest grossing of the genre, with a worldwide total of $525 million at the box office. And now, starting March 1, 2024, all Hulu subscribers will have the chance to watch it for free.
Is Oppenheimer Better Than Dunkirk?
Whatever your opinion of Christopher Nolan's films is, there is no doubting his skill when it comes to historical films.
Both Dunkirk and Oppenheimer have exceptionally high critics' scores of 92% and 93% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Nolan's latest film has managed to captivate audiences more.
One thing that has been both highly praised and misunderstood by some audiences is the lack of dialogue. The complex operation of evacuating Allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk in 1940 was meant to keep viewers on edge throughout, but fell flat for some.
While people agreed on the effectiveness of the visual scenery and soundtrack in maintaining the sense of suspense, Oppenheimer's approach to storytelling found more praise among the general audience.
Like Oppenheimer, Dunkirk stunned audiences with brilliant performances from its cast, including Cillian Murphy, who appeared as a shivering soldier. In addition to Murphy, the cast included such well-known names as Tom Glynn-Carney, Harry Styles, Tom Hardy, and Barry Keoghan.
If you haven't seen Dunkirk, but are ready to give another of Nolan's historical dramas a chance, you're in luck, as the film will be available on Hulu starting March 1. Make sure you have your subscription ready and buckle up for a thrilling experience.
