The first hints can already be seen in the season 1 finale.

Daemon Targaryen has survived the first season of House of the Dragon, but something in his behavior prompts concerns in fans that the showrunners might "ruin" the character.

In episode 10, titled The Black Queen, Daemon is the best husband ever. He puts the crown on Rhaenyra's head, refers to her as "my Queen", and kneels in front of her. There has to be a "but", right?

And there is. When Rhaenyra appears to be considering a peace offer from Otto Hightower, Daemon (who clearly does not feel like it) approaches her and... chokes her? Seriously?

This was simply something that fans could not accept.

"[A]m i expected to believe that daemon, the man who was literally depressed being away from his family, that the only consistent thing he has is his love for Rhaenyra suddenly ignores her call when giving birth and then he [chokes] her out of anger?" Twitter user fortargaryen wondered.

Some people immediately recalled how Daemon killed his first wife earlier in the season, but there were fans who argued that was an entirely different situation.

"Nobody is saying Daemon is a good guy in this story. But the two people he was good to are Viserys and Rhaenyra. This is why it makes no sense," Twitter user JayHass21 said.

Many people already fear that the next season is going to have Daemon degrading into a bigger "villain". Over the course of the first season, many scenes that depicted Daemon as a caring father and husband were largely removed from the show. Fans viewed this as an attempt to deliberately portray him as a villain, even though Daemon did enough things to be considered one even without a shady plot from the showrunners.

Still, fans fear that season 2 is going to portray him as someone even less of a family man, despite the books making it clear that Daemon actually cared a lot about his family.

But it might be too soon to worry about that. It has been confirmed that the shooting of season 2 will kick off in early 2023. However, the premiere date of the new season is yet to be scheduled.
