Jeffrey Dean Morgan was excited about playing Negan, but he didn’t know how badass his entrance would be.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, a name that resonates with fans of The Walking Dead, has had his life and career significantly impacted by the show. His portrayal of Negan is nothing short of iconic, and this role was a game-changer for him.

Before joining the TWD family, Morgan was known for his roles in Grey's Anatomy as Denny Duquette and as John Winchester in Supernatural. However, Negan was a departure from the characters he had previously portrayed.

This baseball bat-wielding villain was the leader of the Saviors, a group that demanded resources from other survivors. He was ruthless, commanding, and the complete opposite of the protagonist, Rick.

The story of how Morgan landed the role of Negan is quite intriguing. He recalls a call from his agent and manager about an offer for a significant role in The Walking Dead. Morgan immediately guessed it was Negan.

He revealed to Interview Magazine that he was so sure and excited about it that he exclaimed, "It’s f***ing Negan. And I’m f***ing doing it."

Speaking about the impact of his entrance onto the show during the Television Critics Association press tour panel (via Insider), Morgan said, "It changed my life. That one scene changed my life, literally, in so many ways. And I still get sh*t for it."

The entrance scene in question is in the first episode of season 7. In this episode, Negan ruthlessly kills Abraham and Glenn in front of other members of the group. The death of the latter was especially taken with hard feelings by the fans. Many people simply dropped the series because of it.

Morgan shared that many fans, still reeling from the loss of their beloved character at Negan's hands, couldn't separate the actor from the role. Jeffrey has been approached by fans, reminding him daily of the actions of his character.

If Jeffrey Dean Morgan wasn't as charming and charismatic (just like his character on TWD), he might have even gotten death threats like a few of the other TWD actors did.
