Fans Are Praising HotD’s Aemond for Only 1 Right Decision as Regent
The Greens’ best political game player may be back in the next episode.
Things are getting even more unpredictable now that House of the Dragon season 2 proved Aemond would have even more freedom for atrocities as Prince Regent, but there’s one reason for the show’s fans to admire the new ruler.
The second installment’s episode 6 saw Aemond adjusting to a new role and forming his own council, potentially aiming at having no influence of those who his brother Aegon considered his main advisors.
The character’s entrance as Aegon’s regent is followed by another major plot twist which is currently having the show’s fans raving about a gone game player’s return which may finally help the Greens regain their positions.
In the episode, Aemond is seen giving an order to bring his grandfather Otto Hightower back, potentially for claiming him as Hand of King once again. Earlier in season 2, Aegon and Otto had a huge fight, resulting in the latter’s dismissal and eventual departure from King’s Landing to Oldtown where House Hightower is located.
Aemond’s decision to undo his brother’s order clearly proves the former’s ability to see through his family members, having a precise vision of who will be useful in the upcoming war.
Since it’s now confirmed that Aemond sees Otto as a valuable figure in the Greens’ camp, House of the Dragon has all chances to go against George R.R. Martin’s storyline by bringing Otto back to the screen.
In Martin’s Fire & Blood, Otto is indeed dismissed as Hand of King during Aegon’s tantrum after his little son’s murder, but there’s never a mention of Otto returning to King’s Landing after being expelled.
He’s also believed to be one of the worst Hands of King in the recent centuries, with many stating that Otto had a major direct impact on all the chaos that unfolded in Westeros.
However, in House of the Dragon Otto Hightower is never spoken badly about, except for his grandson Aegon, and is generally referred to as one of the most experienced advisors of Westerosi rulers with an ability to lead the Greens in a right direction, which so far they haven’t really managed on their own.
Whether Otto’s return is for good or for bad for the Greens, fans are just happy to welcome him back. Some stated that they just can’t wait to see the character as Hand of King once again for a fourth time already.
Others also compared him to Batman and Marvel’s Tanos with Infinity Stones, implying that Otto has always had more power than everyone thought, even after being neglected by his own family.
