Fans Applaud Hughie's Character Development in 'The Boys' S3 Finale

Over the course of 'The Boys' season 3, we have been observing the evolution of Hughie and Starlight's relationship. There was a place for both double standards and benevolence, even though it was understandable that the two just express their love to each other in the way they can.

Still, Annie was accused of hypocrisy by many fans as she reacted differently to Kimiko being treated with Compound V, and Hughie using it. In case with Kimiko, Starlight was okay with her regaining her powers via the serum shot, but Hughie using temporary V had Starlight going ballistic.

However, even Eric Kripke was quick to weigh in on the debate and say that it was Hughie who acted weird in the situation, driven by his egoism and desire to do everything himself.

Well, it looks like the finale gave Hughie a chance to redeem himself and make up for his toxic masculinity. In the final battle between the Boys, Homelander, and Soldier Boy, Hughie makes way for Starlight to shine – which she quite literally does.

Fans could not have enjoyed that more.

Instead of injecting another temporary V shot and rush into battle, Hughie decided to help Starlight differently by providing her with enough electricity around her to feed her powers. And that, fans believe, was a smart move indeed.

Well, it seems that Hughie made peace with the fact that his girlfriend is powerful enough to deal with her problems – and, most importantly, it does not make him less of a man.

What a nice lesson to learn from (arguably) the world's most disturbing show, innit? 'The Boys' season 3 finale is currently streaming on Prime Video.
