The new animated series is everything cat lovers have ever wanted.

These days, anything from dolls to emoji can become the source material for movies and TV shows.

It's no surprise that filmmakers have turned their attention to Exploding Kittens, the most popular board game in Kickstarter history, in which players take turns drawing cards from a deck and are eliminated if they get an "exploding kitten."

What is Exploding Kittens About?

The Netflix animated series abandoned the game mechanics. According to the plot, the council of Heaven decides to send God to Earth. In the very first episode, the creator of all things appears as a bored man who amuses himself by eating fast food, drinking, and watching documentaries about pterodactyls.

Tired of people and their problems, God stopped answering their prayers and lost all empathy. After this, the main character ends up in the body of a cat and loses some of his divine powers. Now he must answer prayers and help an eccentric family raise two teenage children.

At the same time, God's situation is complicated by two other factors. First, along with his furry body, he has acquired truly feline habits and desires – like licking himself in the sun and furiously chasing a laser pointer. Second, none other than the main enemy of all things celestial settled down next to him.

Hell decided to send Satan's daughter named Beelzebub to Earth. In the form of a black cat, she will have to live among people and hone her skills in doing evil. Otherwise, she may be dismissed from her post as CEO of the underworld.

Exploding Kittens Number of Episodes & Streaming Platform

The first season consists of nine episodes, which are only 25 minutes long. And you can watch the whole first season on Netflix.

Exploding Kittens is One of the Most Popular Card Games

What sets Exploding Kittens apart from other animated series of its genre is the story of its creation.

In 2015, the creators of the game of the same name posted the first version on Kickstarter. It took only about a month for users to appreciate it – during this time the game project raised $8.8 million.

Over the next few years, the game became so popular that it was translated into more than 20 languages. It is hard to find a card game fan who has not played Exploding Kittens, as it is almost as famous as the legendary Uno.
