Every LotR’s Fellowship Member, Ranked by Their Chances to Destroy the Ring
“Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.”
We all know who achieved the goal of the Fellowship of the Ring, nevertheless, it’s curious to imagine who could also destroy the most powerful thing in Middle-earth.
9. Boromir
All fans can agree that the prince of Gondor was the weakest one in the Fellowship, doubting its mission from the very beginning at the Council of Elrond, so that he’d be easily overtaken by the Ring’s power and wouldn’t complete the serious mission.
7-8. Merry & Pippin
The two hobbits are similar in this respect, as they both hadn’t got a clue for what they signed up for, having literally no fighting and traveling experience, and being childishly naive (which, obviously, changed) and not so serious as other fellow hobbits.
6. Legolas
Calm and experienced elf could be a great contender to carry the Ring, but it’s known that his race is not so immune to the Ring’s lure. Legolas could easily lose his self-control, which would be disastrous in the sense of the Fellowship’s goal.
5. Gimli
Expressing his indifference to the Ring, Gimli was not so motivated for the mission, but, given the fact that Dwarves could resist the Ring greater than Men or Elves, he could be a reasonable choice for a ring-carrier, unless he was not so nimble as his fellows.
4. Gandalf
The Wizard's constant help and guidance was immeasurable for Frodo’s mission, and it’d be a sound decision to send him to Mordor, but there was so much risk of turning his magic and knowledge to the dark side, so it’s fair he stayed on the home front.
3. Aragorn
Being a fan favorite, the ancient King of Arnor and Gondor could complete the Fellowship’s mission successfully, as his inner discipline was outstanding. However, he was irreplaceable as a decent and faithful commander in the War of the Ring.
2. Sam
Possessing neither Aragorn’s strength nor Legolas’ fighting experience nor Gandalf’s magic, the hobbit stood out because of his big heart and great dedication to both the goal and his friend Frodo, deserving the status of a decent hero without any doubt.
1. Frodo
No words needed, you’ve seen it all. The one, who initially volunteered to carry the Ring and managed to destroy it in the fiery Cracks of Doom, turned out to be the most strong-willed one in the Fellowship, even though others helped him much on his way.
