The actor is back on track, but with a new upcoming show that actually killed NCIS’ beloved spinoff.

Around a year after NCIS: Los Angeles officially came to its end after 14 seasons, one of its lead actors Eric Christian Olsen was quick to get himself a new prestigious position now that the story of his Marty Deeks was over, helming one of CBS’ upcoming brand new shows as an executive producer.

Though that’s surely a big career boost for the actor, the police procedural franchise’s lovers may not be that happy for Olsen — especially since the series he’s now a part of is partially responsible for NCIS: Hawai’i’s ruined future.

As Olsen revealed himself during a Television Critics Association press tour, he’s set to collaborate with CBS once again working on the network’s upcoming reboot of a 1986 legal drama show Matlock now starring Kathy Bates in the leading role.

According to the actor, he couldn't be more excited about the opportunity.

“I’ve had so many experiences working for CBS for 13 years, and I did think that this was an incredible opportunity and platform to find stories that I was really passionate about and then help build them from the ground up,” he said.

The future series is now scheduled for the upcoming new TV season, which will kick it off this fall.

Olsen’s decision to join Matlock as an executive producer may come as something really concerning for NCIS fans, considering that Matlock is one of those brand new arrivals that pushed NCIS: Hawai’i off CBS’ schedule.

Earlier this year, NCIS: Hawai’i’s cancellation caused a lot of fuss in social media, followed by numerous statements from the network’s execs justifying their decision by a genuine intention to give the viewers more of new shows, which wouldn’t be able to fit in the schedule if it hadn’t been for some sacrifices.

Given that CBS’ modern reboot of a classic mystery show has already garnered many discontent fans’ reactions, the question of its success among the viewers remains until the show drops its premiere episode on September 22.
