The next installment might become a family affair for the titular character (and the actress).

Elsbeth ’s season 1 officially came to its end with last night’s final episode, and fans can now surely expect bigger things for the character next season.

As it turned out, there’s now no bad blood between Elsbeth and her boss Wagner who almost sent her away back to Chicago after learning that she was digging up dirt on him, and though the compelling drama seems to be over, a new level achieved in their relationship may still have some surprises in stock.

Apart from that, after proving Elsbeth’s ability to find murderers on her slightest whim, the show may turn to another perspective and dive deeper into Elsbeth’s personal story which has never been explored before.

Though so far it’s nothing but a mere suggestion, Elsbeth’s actress yet has another option for a family affair on set, and it doesn’t have to do with her character’s personal life.

Talking about the show’s season 1 finale, Elsbeth’s actress Carrie Preston reflected on the future installment’s possible exploration of her character’s background, including her family that, despite being mentioned every so often, still stays in the shadows.

Season 2 May Introduce Elsbeth’s Son Officially

Preston revealed that the upcoming season might introduce Teddy, Elsbeth’s son, who she sometimes talks about during the first season, though, according to the actress, it’s not really fun to put it that way.

Preston then clarified that Colombo, a titular character from an NBC crime drama show, constantly mentions his wife throughout the whole series, but she eventually never appears on screen. As Preston then put it, “it would be fun to leave the specificity of Teddy to the audience’s imagination.”

The actress then proceeded to talk about what, from her point of view, would really be fun as she pondered over her husband Michael Emerson’s potential cameo in Elsbeth. Preston admitted that he finds Emerson’s candidacy for a role in the next season a perfect fit for Elsbeth’s storyline, as “he’s very good at playing evil people,” but “it would be fun to see him in a role that wasn’t that, where we would expect him to be the murderer, but what if he wasn’t.”

Though nothing has yet been confirmed about the upcoming season’s cast, Preston is quite reassured that her husband will be ready to jump at the opportunity if he’s indeed offered a role. As the actress put it, “he loves the show, and we’ve been talking about how fun it would be if he came on and did an episode or two.”

Elsbeth’s season 2 will premiere on CBS this fall.
