Elsbeth Star Reflects on THAT Potential Season 2 Plot Twist
The quirky detective is getting more and more chances to go back to her roots.
Elsbeth ’s first season officially wrapped it all up several weeks ago leaving fans with no real cliffhanger to build their theories around, but still hinting at some possible changes in the titular character’s career.
Coming as The Good Wife ’s spinoff, Elsbeth follows an eponymous private investigator who switches her position of a lawyer in Chicago for a new workplace at the NYPD helping the police uncover crimes in New York City.
Though the season 1 finale proved that Elsbeth was no longer in danger of being fired and sent away back to Chicago, her past life nonetheless has some chances to show up again in the next installment.
Following the first season’s ending, Elsbeth’s creators repeatedly stated that they’d indeed considered bringing the character back to the courtroom showing that her lawyer skills would come in handy even when she moved past it by getting a totally different position.
With the show’s creative team that doesn’t really mind adding some of The Good Wife’s vibe to its spinoff, Elsbeth’s leading actress Carrie Preston also sees such a plot twist as something really exciting for her character’s future.
When asked about whether there were already some new storylines for season 2, the actress suggested that the writers are most likely coming up with ten more new plot lines right now, but, given that New York is a whole versatility of professions, events and styles, it surely won’t turn out to be that difficult.
Proceeding to her own suggestions for Elsbeth’s next installment, Preston revealed that she too would like to see her character back to the legal world “just because Elsbeth is a lawyer after all.”
The actress then specified that Elsbeth wouldn’t necessarily need to ditch her current profession to then return as a lawyer again, but she better stayed at the NYPD as one of its investigators that for some reason would need to revive her previous position.
As Preston put it, “that could be a really fun universe to explore and see what she could bring to the proceedings that she's learned from working with the NYPD”.
Elsbeth’s second season will arrive at CBS this fall.
