The title of the series has been changed to Dune: Prophecy and its release is apparently less than a year away.

Summary:

  • The series has been in development hell for almost four years now, causing fans to lose all hope
  • At last there is some good news, revealing the new title of the project, as well as the release window
  • It may be too early to celebrate, as some fans are still unsure about the show's future

Dune: The Sisterhood, a TV series that serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of the iconic sci-fi novel of the same name, the first installment of which was released in 2021, has had a rough few years as it's been stuck in development hell.

Since the show was announced in 2019, it hasn't caught a break, with one major issue after another, resulting in the project being put on hold after losing several key members of the cast and production team.

Once replacements were finally found, the infamous Hollywood strikes kicked in, and although the show's creators said the production wasn't affected by the crisis due to the mostly British cast, fans became even more skeptical about the project's future.

New Dune Update Bring Optimism

Now, finally, an optimistic update brings at least some clarity regarding the state of the project, as it has undergone some pretty significant changes.

Most importantly, according to IGN, the series has been renamed and is now called Dune: Prophecy, though the main premise of the story about the founding of the Bene Gesserit sect remains the same.

In addition, a source close to the production revealed the approximate release window for the series, as it is now expected to be out in the fall of 2024.

Fans are genuinely surprised to learn that the series has not been quietly canceled and is still alive and seemingly well, despite the cascade of problems mentioned above.

With HBO in charge of the series, as it will be released on Max, and one of the most intriguing time periods of the Dune universe to be explored, hopes remain quite high, even after so many setbacks.

Dune TV Series Can Still Get Canceled

But not everyone is as optimistic, as some fans still fear that the project may never see the light of day.

They are also worried that even if Prophecy is released against all odds, it might be canceled after only one season.

Either way, we will know soon enough if their fears are justified, as the show is now less than a year away from release, unless it is delayed again.

Are you still hoping that Dune: Prophecy will live up to the high expectations?
