Doctor Who: Is Donna Divorced from Shaun in 60th Anniversary Specials?
Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary is closing in, and fan theories are becoming crazier by the day.
The BBC has recently shared a peculiar update regarding the new Rose (and a new photo of the character) on Doctor Who ’s official Instagram page in honor of Yasmin Finney’s birthday. It’s official: Rose is in fact the person everyone thought she was – Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) and Shaun Temple’s (Karl Collins) daughter. Check out the post below.
Apparently, Rose is going down the same path her mother did once. She will come across the extraterrestrial, which means the Doctor (David Tennant) is nearby, and this will trigger something in the Noble-Temple family (maybe Donna’s memory?).
All this is good and well, but there’s something worrisome about this new Doctor Who announcement – Rose’s last name, to be exact. The show introduces her as Rose Noble (not Temple or Noble-Temple), which has made some fans fear that there’s trouble in paradise.
What if Donna and Shaun weren’t together by the time of the specials, or what if they got divorced even before Rose was born? That would explain why Donna gave her daughter her own last name, and not Shaun’s.
There’s of course a possibility that Donna has remained the strong independent woman she always was, which is why Rose has her last name. We’re not saying that Donna isn’t a feminist, but this just seems unlikely, given her previous personality that we are familiar with.
Shaun didn’t have a lot of screen time in season 4 or the following specials, but viewers still managed to fall in love with him. He seems like a nice guy, and that’s what Donna deserves after her last fiancé! It would be a shame if Doctor Who had split them up, that’s all.
Although there aren’t any exact release dates yet, Doctor Who’s 60th-anniversary specials will premiere in November 2023. The audience will have to sit tight until then and hope for the best for Donna Noble (because she is a star).
