Doctor Who Fans Scared Of Upcoming Specials For A Very Specific Reason
No one wants to see this character back for three more episodes with no change at all.
The 60th anniversary of a show that was and still is so popular with sci-fi fans around the world certainly calls for a celebration. It is crazy to think that any show made today could ever reach such a mark in the future.
However, not everyone in the fandom is happy with the way the showrunners have chosen to celebrate the show's success this time around.
It would be hard to top the success of the previous 50th-anniversary celebration. Though it lasted only one episode instead of three like this one, the episode itself featured three versions of the Doctor at the same time. The Day of the Doctor remains one of the most popular and critically acclaimed episodes of the series.
This time, however, things will be different. Viewers will be introduced to an entirely new incarnation of the Doctor, portrayed by the one and only David Tennant, known to audiences as the Tenth Doctor and accompanied by one of the beloved companions, Donna Noble, portrayed by Catherine Tate.
For many viewers, this is a dream come true, as they fell in love with the Doctor Who revival during the Tenth Doctor's heyday and have a lot of nostalgia for that era. For everyone else, however, it seems unfair that only one character gets the credit for all 60 years of Doctor Who.
Or at least they fear that it will be the same character all over again.
Although the Fourteenth Doctor is promised to be an independent character with a completely new costume and a face that has aged a little over the years, many people still believe that he will be essentially the same as the Tenth Doctor.
There is only so much you can say about the character in three episodes, so there is a good chance that viewers are already expected to know exactly who he is.
Of course, knowing Doctor Who's long history of giving viewers the most unexpected surprises, it's too early to draw any conclusions. If you want to see the 60th-anniversary specials for yourself, stay tuned for more news on the release date.
