Did Donnie Wahlberg Just Hint at Daez Becoming Canon in the Next Blue Bloods Episode?
"Friends to lovers" is a popular romance trope, and many Blue Bloods fans have been waiting for it between Danny Reagan and Maria Baez for years — now, we have news from Danny himself!
In his recent interview with TV Insider, Donnie Wahlberg who plays Danny Reagan in the show spoke about the relationship between his character and Detective Baez.
Danny and Maria have been shipped by the fans for ages, but on-screen, they have always remained only friends. Is this about to change?
According to Donnie, there are some big changes in their relationship coming. Specifically, he talks about the upcoming May 12 episode, which is "going to really show how important Danny and Baez are to each other".
He went even further and provided some insight into what's going to happen there.
"[This] episode is really intense for the partners. <...> There's a dinner and some drinks involved and maybe a sleepover. <...> The audience is going to love it!", Wahlberg said.
Judging from what exactly the fans are waiting for when it comes to Danny and Maria, we can only assume that Donnie's confidence in their reaction implies.
He specifically mentions drinks and a sleepover, and in the previous answer he claims that his and Marisa Ramirez' characters are going to "bond at much deeper levels than they ever had".
This may come as a surprise, especially considering that in the January 20 episode, Danny actually already went on a date with another long-time friend of his, Detective Acosta.
But it meant more than some disappointed fans gathered from the episode: it meant that Danny finally managed to overcome his beloved wife's death and was ready to move on.
This is a positive sign for his relationship with Baez, too.
"I know a lot of fans want Danny and Baez to date, and when Danny was going on a date with someone else, I was like, 'Oh, they're going to be mad, but can we give them something to be happy about later? Can this lead to other positive things?' And it was like, 'Yes, it can'," says Donnie Wahlberg.
This combined with the sneak peek into the May 12 episode makes us almost certain: in a few weeks, we'll finally see Danny Reagan and Maria Baez together!
