Did Deadpool 3 Just Accidentally Reveal Its Biggest Plot Twist?
It looks like the events of the new Deadpool will have a far greater impact on the entire MCU.
Summary
When Deadpool came out in 2016, Marvel fandom went crazy, not only because it was Ryan Reynolds ' wildly successful superhero role after the failure of Green Lantern, but also because it was one of the few R-rated live-action adaptations of Marvel comics. And now Wade Wilson is rushing to conquer the Disney- interpreted universe with his sarcastic wit and hardened mercenary skills, as Deadpool 3, the first installment to be integrated into the MCU, will be released later this year.
The premiere is still a while away, but fans are eagerly waiting for more details about the upcoming movie. And it looks like they've finally gotten some, as one of Marvel's official websites seems to have subtly hinted that the plot could drastically change the entire course of the MCU.
Suspicious Update from Marvel Japan's Official Website
On January 28, Reddit users spotted a noteworthy update regarding Deadpool 3 on the official Marvel Japan website that gave away, shall we say, a 'synopsis' of the upcoming movie. The film had a logline that can roughly be translated as 'Will this punk superhero Deadpool alter the history of the MCU with Wolverine?'
The logline was soon removed and now just reads 'New Deadpool installment' and 'Due for release in 2024'. Most likely, the logline was removed not because of potential spoilers, but because of profanity: the word used in the original can be roughly translated from Japanese as 'reckless,' 'sh--ty,' or even 'f---ing,' depending on the context.
But what attracted Marvel fans was not the phrasing, which despite the quick removal fits well into the typical Wade Wilson vocabulary, but the potential plot twist. It looks like Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman could really change the course of the MCU.
What Does This Mean for Upcoming Events in the MCU?
Fans have long speculated that Deadpool 3 would not only focus on moving between realities as in Multiverse of Madness, but also pick up Loki's storyline, which revolves around the temporal component of Marvel's meta-universe.
Many of us wish Loki had remained a great standalone story that emphasized character study over global events, but alas, the MCU had its own agenda. As we know, Tom Hiddleston 's character finally found his glorious, if tragic, purpose in the Season 2 finale: to save the existence of all alternate timelines, Loki sacrificed his free will and the Asgardian future by creating the Yggdrasil-like Temporal Tree, the root of all existence, temporal and spatial.
In such a context, Deadpool will not only connect the Fox and Disney universes and provide a fanservice crossover with Loki, but also seems to be directly related to the theme of temporal options, while continuing the idea of Deadpool messing with Cable's time machine in the second installment. By the way, all of this also confirms the rumors that surfaced last year, provided by insiders.
'Deadpool 3 is about the TVA picking up the PRIME versions of each hero to create a multiversal army to fight the Kangs. And they picked Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to recruit but he's not fully on board. That is what the movie is about,' Marvel insider MyTimeToShineHello shared details about the movie.
Now that Jonathan Majors will no longer be able to step into the role of Kang the Conqueror, it's entirely possible that Disney will decide to change the course of the MCU altogether, as the antics of Deadpool and Wolverine will allow them to get rid of the looming threat to the Multiverse altogether. We look forward to the upcoming movie, scheduled for release on July 26, 2024. Well, as long as it doesn't belittle Loki's sacrifice!
