Deleted Avengers: Endgame Scene Poked Fun at This Dumb Avengers Moment

The first Avengers movie was released over a decade ago. While this movie will always be a legendary page in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it wasn’t flawless.

Remember the epic moment at the end of the movie when Tony Stark heroically hurls a nuclear bomb into space? As triumphant as that scene was, it left fans with a nagging question: why did all the Chitauri and their massive Leviathans drop dead the moment their mothership was destroyed?

Joss Whedon, the mastermind behind the film, has openly discussed this plot point. In the DVD commentary of the film (via MTV), he admitted that while the "destroy the mothership, destroy the army" trope wasn't his favorite, it was a necessary move.

Interestingly, there is a deleted scene from Avengers: Endgame that humorously touches upon this very topic. In this scene, Rocket, the feisty raccoon from the Guardians of the Galaxy, throws shade at the Chitauri's seemingly fragile existence.

Rocket asks how much time it took for the Avengers to deal with Chitauri. When he finds out that it took them about three hours to take down the “suckiest” army. Rocket asks them why they didn’t just blow their mothership and bursts out laughing when Cap says they didn’t know it was a thing.

Rocket hints that the Chitauri are indeed weak enemies and can be taken down just by exploding their mothership. It’s like Rocket makes fun of the first Avengers movie.

The scene, while hilarious, was ultimately cut from the final version of the movie. Some fans argue that it was a good call, as the scene might have diminished the gravity of the original Avengers movie and Tony's subsequent character arc.

The Chitauri's sudden defeat in the first Avengers movie might remain a point of contention among fans, but it's clear that the filmmakers were not oblivious to the chatter. They even went as far as to create a scene addressing it, even though it was left on the cutting room floor.
