She may still be used for the greater good.

Summary:

  • Bridgerton is a Netflix romantic period drama TV show set in 1800s England.
  • Lady Whistledown is an anonymous writer who spreads town gossip around London.
  • Her work is in danger due to her persona reveal that happened in season 2, however, she can still find a way around it.

If there's one Bridgerton character who knows more than anyone else, and yet doesn't really help with all the information she has, it's Lady Whistledown. From the very beginning of the show, she had the London Ton hooked on all the gossip she was spreading, and all viewers were intrigued by her identity.

When it was revealed that Lady Whistledown was none other than Penelope Featherington, many viewers turned on her character and tried to paint her as the villain of the piece. While her actions weren't always well thought out and rarely justified, there is still potential to see her grow.

Both as Penelope Featherington herself and as her alter ego, Lady Whistledown.

Penelope's passion for writing is understandable, as is her desire to be at the center of the most scandalous stories since her own life has been so dull. And there is no need to give it all up in a day when the tables can easily be turned.

All young Lady Featherington has to do now is take responsibility, take control of the narrative, and turn the once hurtful page that had the power to ruin lives into a powerful tool to make those lives better.

Lady Whistledown Helping Kate Sharma

One person who could definitely use some help from Lady Whistledown is the new Viscountess, previously known to the Ton as Kate Sharma. After the end of the last season, the Ton probably did not want to let the memories of all the scandals surrounding Anthony and Kate's union fade away.

While we were all happy to see Anthony put his duties aside for once and choose happiness over rules, it led to some trouble for the whole Bridgerton family. And as Kate takes her first steps in society with her newly accepted title, she could certainly benefit from having Lady Whistledown at her side.

Not only she but also her mother and sister, Mary and Edwina, would probably appreciate some help. After all, thanks to the sparks that flew between Anthony and Kate, her little sister ended up unmarried and in the middle of a family drama she had nothing to do with. Restoring her good name is another kind of help Lady Whistledown could have offered.

The same goes for Marina Thompson, whose reputation Penelope nearly destroyed on the show. There is no way to make up for what Penelope did out of love for Colin, but a few kind words would probably go a long way. Unfortunately, Marina's fate is pretty tragic in the books, but that doesn't mean it can't change in the show.

After all, Shonda Rhimes has already made many changes to the stories, and this one wouldn't be the first. However, with the confirmation of Ruby Barker's departure from the show, it's unlikely that we'll ever see her character on screen again.

While some fans may protest the idea of Penelope having to sacrifice anything or apologize to anyone, since her actions have already been perfectly explained, it would be interesting to see the Gossip Girl-style story turned around in favor of all the protagonists.

To see if this will happen or if Penelope Featherington will continue as if nothing had happened, you will have to wait until the premiere of season 3. For now, there is no news or information about the release date, so keep your eyes peeled to not miss anything important.

In the meantime, you can binge-watch the first two seasons on Netflix, following the love stories of Daphne and Simon, and Anthony and Kate.
