Deadpool 3 at Risk of Being a Cluttered Mess with 7 Superheroes Confirmed to Appear
Marvel is once again going for an ensemble crossover.
Summary
- Superhero fatigue is no longer a theory, it is a tangible phenomenon.
- It's largely caused by an overabundance of content and countless crossovers that devalue each character's arc.
- Deadpool 3 may suffer the same fate, as the movie will feature a plethora of superheroes in addition to the title character.
The Marvel movie franchise has fallen on hard times, as both Disney CEO Bob Iger and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige have repeatedly stated. We won't speculate on their own contributions to the declining state of the MCU, but will note that fans are getting less excited every year, worn down by the overwhelming overabundance of content.
Disney has finally listened. Only one feature film in the Marvel Universe is planned for 2024: the company is banking on a third installment of Deadpool after their triumphant acquisition of 20th Century Studios, which allowed Disney to merge the two film franchises into one single MCU. As a result, the upcoming movie will feature seven superheroes. However, fans are fed up with the endless meta-universes and crossovers, and the situation can only get worse if the writers can't handle such a huge amount of overlapping storylines.
The Only MCU Movie to Be Released in 2024
Disney clearly has high expectations for their upcoming flick, as it has been in development for several years now, continuing Fox's work and reimagining it as part of the post-End Game MCU. The original writers of the first two installments have been working on the script all this time, so we're sure to get a quality movie that will prove to be significantly better than Quantumania and The Marvels.
And although the upcoming Deadpool 3 is indeed an interesting Disney novelty, another focus on commercially motivated crossovers has left audiences frustrated. Since the movie will take place during Phase 5, the story will be embedded in the narrative with the TVA-regulated timelines introduced in Loki. By the way, fans of the Tom Hiddelston series were also hoping that their favorite title character would get a story independent of the global events of the MCU, but unfortunately, the drama of the TVA story will be diluted by Ryan Reynolds ' comical one-liners.
Deadpool 3 Will Feature at Least 7 Superheroes
Seven superheroes have been officially confirmed to appear. Aside from Deadpool himself, there is of course another iteration of Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman. According to various insiders, this will be a younger version of Wolverine who has not yet experienced the events of the Logan movie.
Also returning to Deadpool will be Colossus, voiced by Stefan Kapičić, as well as two other X-Men members, Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her girlfriend Yukiko, portrayed by Brianna Hildebrand and Shioli Kutsuna. The newest addition will be Elektra, played by Jennifer Garner. Garner's character has appeared in Fox's Daredevil and Elektra, linking her not only to another Fox franchise, but to the MCU as well.
But the main star of the film will be Dogpool, as confirmed by Reynolds himself in early November. Like Alligator Loki, Dogpool is a confident superhero and an irreplaceable variant of Wade.
Won't That Be Another Factor in Superhero Fatigue?
But that's not all the comic book characters that could appear in the movie. The as-yet-unnamed main villain will be played by Emma Corrin, while Matthew Macfadyen has been cast in an undisclosed role. In addition, Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz, who starred in the second installment of the franchise, may appear in the film as Cable and Domino, respectively. And that's not counting the rumored return of Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, and cameos by members of Loki's TVA.
In other words, Marvel is once again going for a megacrossover of popular characters. Unfortunately, Multiverse of Madness showed how shifting the focus from one character to multiple ones can be a disastrous idea, and Deadpool 3 risks repeating the same story.
