David Harbour Is Fed Up with Being Recognized Only for Stranger Things

Most of us know David Harbour for his role as Chief Hopper from the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. While his portrayal is nothing short of brilliant, and fans totally love Harbour in this role, it looks like the actor is eager to break out of the mold.

In a recent interview with Variety, Harbour expressed his desire to venture further into the world of cinema. He has recently made a mark with his role in the upcoming Sony’s Gran Turismo. However, he's aware that many still recognize him primarily for his iconic role in Stranger Things.

As the series approaches its fifth and final season, Harbour is setting his sights on a film-centric career. He reminisced about his roles in movies like Brokeback Mountain and Revolutionary Road before Stranger Things skyrocketed his fame.

While he faced a setback with the film Hellboy, he bounced back with roles in Marvel’s Black Widow and Universal’s Violent Night.

Harbour's passion for cinema was evident when he spoke about Violent Night, stating, "A whole new world opened up for me with that. I want to make original movies that go to the movie theaters.”

Harbour claims that he wants to shake off the Stranger Things image and hopes people will start seeing him in a different way. He brought up how George Clooney left the show ER, and now we only think of him as George Clooney. He really wants to show that he can do all sorts of roles and wants people to notice that.

Harbour previously told Discussing Film that while he initially never wanted the show to end, almost nine years since the filming of the first season, he feels it's time.

Harbour believes it's essential for both him and the show's creators, the Duffer brothers, to explore new projects and showcase their diverse talents.

It really does look like the talented actor got a bit tired of playing the same character. Luckily for him and unfortunately for the fans, Stranger Things is about to conclude with its upcoming season 5.

The production of Stranger Things season 5 is currently on pause due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Therefore, the release date is unknown.
