Daniel Radcliffe has been trying to escape the role that has made him famous for years, even though he is grateful to the Harry Potter franchise for everything that it has done for him. Well, except for one thing.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts has revealed many fascinating behind-the-scenes facts.

For instance, Daniel Radcliffe shared how one Harry Potter director, specifically Mike Newell, tricked him and Rupert in the best possible way.

Apparently, the Harry Potter cast had a tradition: every year after they finished a movie, they didn't cut their hair over the summer so that they could get a suitable haircut in time for filming the next movie.

After they wrapped up the work on the third installment, the next director asked Daniel and Rupert to do the same thing, which was pretty standard practice by then.

When they returned to shoot the fourth movie, they found that Mike Newell had totally betrayed them by having no intention of giving Daniel and Rupert any sort of haircut. The guys were understandably mortified.

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the kids are teenagers, and the boys are starting to date girls and all. Newell wasn't convinced by Radcliffe and Grint's arguments, and this is how we ended up with the most book Harry look ever.

Radcliffe recalled feeling "devastated" over this at the time, but years later he felt nothing but love for the director. Aww!

Honestly, we don't know why Daniel is complaining. Both Harry and Ron rocked their long hair in that movie, and this was the closest we got to Harry's messy hair from the books!

Besides, Harry Potter was supposed to take place in the 1990s, and this was the style back then.

The fourth movie is arguably the most hated one of the franchise (since it butchered so many of the book scenes), so getting the hairstyles right is probably one of the very few things fans are thankful to the director for.

Anyway, we hope that Dan isn't too traumatized by Mike's lie. Although he seems to be – when filming Victor Frankenstein, he opted for hair extensions instead of letting his own hair grow out.

He looked awesome!
