The poor raccoon has been through much worse than you think.

There is no doubt that Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy has blessed us with some of the happiest and saddest moments in the MCU.

It's crazy how one of the most beloved Guardians is actually a completely CGI animated animal. You've guessed it right, we are talking about Rocket.

The brazen raccoon who was introduced in the first movie turned out to be a deep and complex character with some serious drama, which was fully explored in the latest installment.

Spoilers alert for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3!

So in the movie we've seen the pain, both physical and emotional, that Rocket suffered when he was kept as a lab rat by High Evolutionary. We've seen the terrible experiments that the evil Evolutionary conducted on the poor raccoon.

But there is one specific detail about Rocket that hasn't been covered in the movie. The way Rocket walks is what made many fans wonder. Rocket walks like a human being, but given that he is basically a raccoon, how is this possible?

Well, there is an explanation, and you wouldn't like it. High Evolutionary did more terrible things to Rocket than we've seen.

Firstly, if you remember the metal elements on Rocket's back, it is actually a part of a metal structure that holds his shoulders.

The thing is that raccoons don't really have a chest. At least not like human's.

Raccoons have curved shoulders that allow them to walk on all fours, but for Rocket to walk upright on two legs, his shoulders need to be straightened out (hence the metal modifications).

To do that, High Evolutionary had to basically break and reconstruct his entire skeleton.

Moreover, considering how Rocket can handle massive firearms with his small hands, it's likely that High Evolutionary replaced his bones or muscles. And to all of that add the brain surgeries that we've partly seen in the movie.

High Evolutionary, who claims to be seeking perfection, is basically a crazy man who probably didn't have any toys to play with as a kid.

But his past with Rocket ended up killing two birds with one stone, making him a great villain, and giving us some of the most heart-wrenching moments in the MCU.
