Clueless Matt Damon Clearly Doesn't Get the Joke of Oppenheimer-Barbie 'Competition'
The actor was surprised to learn about the "rivalry" between two movies.
It is hard to imagine two films more drastically different than Barbie and Oppenheimer, one a lighthearted comedy based on an iconic toy and the other a serious biographical drama.
And yet, recently, people have been constantly comparing them because they both come out on the same day, which has led to something of a humorous rivalry on social media. But it seems that not everyone got the joke.
Matt Damon, who you're probably familiar with from his many screen appearances, plays General Leslie Groves, the director of the Manhattan Project, in Cristopher Nolan's biopic and was recently asked about the ongoing "competition" in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Apparently, the question took the actor by surprise, as he said it was the first time he had heard about it.
"People are allowed to see two movies in a weekend. Oppenheimer is one of them!" said Damon.
Fans say that Matt clearly doesn't get the humorous nature of the rivalry, which is obvious since it's the first time he's heard about it.
They are eager to see both movies and jokingly say they thought it was "a double feature."
Although fans admit that there may be at least some truth to that, as current ticket prices are not affordable for everyone, so some viewers may have to choose what to see.
Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, is pretty self-explanatory as it follows the adventures of the titular character, portrayed by Margot Robbie, accompanied by Ken, played by Ryan Gosling.
Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, will tell the story of the creator of the first atomic bomb, Robert Oppenheimer, portrayed by Cillian Murphy.
Both films will be released on July 21, 2023.
