Cillian Murphy Finally Addressed New Peaky Blinders Project Rumors
If Stephen Knight wants to make a Peaky Blinders movie, it must involve the show's biggest star. But Cillian Murphy has something to say about this idea, too.
Claiming that Cillian Murphy was made famous by the Peaky Blinders TV series is wrong on two completely different levels.
First, the series didn't make him famous because he was already well-established as an actor, having played in four (!) Christopher Nolan blockbusters and a Cannes winner movie prior to joining the show.
Second, Peaky Blinders didn't make him famous because it made him a superstar.
So much, in fact, that the actor started to suffer from the way he was getting treated in his everyday life. That's more than just "famous".
Still, despite owing quite a lot to Peaky Blinders and having the time of his life shooting it, everyone would've totally understood if Cillian Murphy was done with the role of the notorious Birmingham gangster.
The show's been active for almost a decade, and most actors get frustrated with being stuck with their character over such a long time span.
Still, there have been many rumors that despite season 6 of Peaky Blinders officially being the last, the director, Stephen Knight, was looking at making a full-blown movie sequel and bringing the Shelby family back together one last (question mark?) time.
Stephen Knight himself confirmed the rumors and had the Peaky Blinders fans excited — but the thing is, without Cillian Murphy, no such movie can ever exist.
Recently, while speaking to Christina Newland from Rolling Stones UK, Cillian finally addressed the potential movie sequels to the world's beloved criminal drama series.
"If there's more story there, I'd love to do it. But it has to be right. Steve Knight wrote 36 hours of television, and we left on such a high. I'm really proud of that last series. So, it would have to feel legitimate and justified to do more," said the actor.
There have been reports that the work on the movie has already started.
Presumably, it's now on the stage of writing the script — and while it doesn't sound like Cillian Murphy is entirely sold on what he's seen so far, his general enthusiasm towards putting on Tommy Shelby's coat makes us cautiously optimistic.
