True love will always find a way.

Summary:

  • Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is a Netflix miniseries released between seasons 2 and 3 of the romantic period drama Bridgerton.
  • Queen Charlotte takes viewers back in time and tells the tragic love story between the young Queen and King George.
  • During Bridgerton's official timeline, King George is still alive but very ill, and there is still a chance that viewers will see more of him.

Although Bridgerton is based on a series of romance novels by Julia Quinn, the show takes time to emphasize the importance of family life through the Bridgerton siblings' bond with their mother and each other, and the love between friends, even as Penelope and Eloise's relationship is about to become strained.

Queen Charlotte, an offshoot of Bridgerton, has captured perhaps the most tragic love story of the entire series, a fictionalized biography of King George and the way his health deteriorated for the Queen to watch. Although the years have passed, there is still a chance to see the King again in season 3.

What Happened to King George in Bridgerton?

From what fans have learned over the course of Queen Charlotte and the last two seasons of Bridgerton, King George is no longer fit to rule the kingdom. Viewers who saw him young in Queen Charlotte know that he fell victim to a mental illness and made many attempts to rid himself of it, but never succeeded.

In season 1 of Briderton, King George appears bedridden and doesn't recognize his own wife, who still tries her best to comfort him. In season 2, the king stumbles upon the ruined wedding at the royal palace, convinced that it is time for him to marry Charlotte. Though both are affected by George's illness, the love between the king and queen is obvious.

Speaking to Digital Spy as a part of the upcoming Bridgerton season 3 promotion, the actress who portrays the incomparable Queen Charlotte on the show, Golda Rosheuvel, has shared her hopes for what awaits her character moving forward.

“I hope [we see more of Charlotte and George] – I think it's really important to give her a well-rounded storyline. <...> I think it's really lovely to have George come in and you see behind the scenes and you see a more vulnerable side of her. Between the private and the public. I think the more we get to see a little bit of the private will inform the public,” she said.

Unfortunately, right now the viewers have no idea if King George will appear in season 3 at all. While the Queen is busy trying to find Lady Whistledown, there may not be time to spend with George.

If you are still interested in what Bridgerton Season 3 will bring to your screen, the wait is almost over. Tune in to Netflix on May 16 to watch the first part of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington's love story, and don't miss the season's grand finale on June 13.
