Bridgerton Season 3 Story Got So Dark, It Had to Be Axed, Delaying The Show's Return
While Bridgerton fans are getting increasingly annoyed over the lack of news on the next chapter of their favorite show, Shonda Rhimes decided to take more time with its script.
Those who have been waiting for the release date of Bridgerton Season 3 will be disappointed to learn about the delay in production. According to Daily Mail, an anonymous inside source revealed that the delay in filming was bound to happen because Shonda Rhimes had demanded changes to be made in the script.
"Some of it got very dark," the source said when explaining the reason behind Shonda's decision.
Apparently, one of the storylines seemed too gloomy for the executive producer to go on with it. Daily Mail hinted that the storyline that needed to be rewritten was sex-related.
The source added that the plot was being altered to bring back fun from the previous seasons. They assured that all the changes were made with Bridgerton fans in mind. The creators want to get the story right for viewers to enjoy Season 3 as much as they did with the first two seasons.
While this reasoning is noble and understandable, Bridgerton fans are not happy about extended delays. The hiatus between Seasons 1 and 2 was almost 1.5 years, and many fans were hoping this period would be reduced before Season 3.
"I'm already exasperated at needing to wait until May/June. So what? It's not coming out until late summer/early fall now?" one of the discouraged fans commented on Reddit.
Season 3 of the Netflix show based on the eponymous novel series by Julia Quinn is supposed to revolve around the arc of yet another Bridgerton sibling, Colin, and his love story with one of the main characters of the first two seasons, Penelope Featherington aka Lady Whistledown.
Fans are eager to watch the relationship between Penelope and Colin develop from friendship to love. Especially after mesmerizing Season 2 showing a nearly perfect romance drama between beloved characters, Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma.
With all the delays, the official release date hasn't been announced yet. But Season 3 is set to come out after the premiere of the Bridgerton spinoff titled Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. It is a prequel focused on the early years of Queen Charlotte and her rise to power.
