Bring the real drama back, Netflix.

It's impossible not to mention Bridgerton in a conversation about Netflix 's most successful romance shows. Though the story started out pretty niche, the production work from Shonda Rhimes' Shondaland made the show appeal to just about any viewer who wanted to get in on the action.

And those who didn't were hit hard with a promotional blitz. From hilarious trailers to major events, there was no way someone wasn't at least hearing about Bridgerton when it came out.

Season 1, which was promoted as a romantic drama, definitely lived up to the audience's expectations. A little dark at times, it kept the balance between the romantic story of Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset, as well as showing every aspect of the society around them.

Viewers were as entertained by the chemistry between the leads as they were fascinated by the heartbreaking events unfolding in the background. From Marina Thompson's disturbing abortion attempt to Lord Featherington's gambling problem, Bridgerton wasn't afraid to get too real.

With the second season, however, things changed drastically. Although the season was just as beloved by fans, thanks to the captivating love story between Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, Bridgerton quickly turned into a romcom with a little drama thrown in.

While some viewers still enjoy this style, those who are familiar with the upcoming stories and the issues that will be raised are afraid that the change is permanent. Without giving away any spoilers, if things go well and Netflix gives Bridgerton the green light to continue exploring the siblings' stories, the show will have to deal with some sensitive topics.

From drug addiction to depression to slavery, these are topics that cannot be downplayed and presented in a lighthearted way. Whether Bridgerton will understand this and set the right tone, or change the story so much that original fans won't recognize it, remains to be seen.

If you don’t want to miss any important news or behind-the-scenes updates from Bridgerton S3, make sure to stay tuned! Until the release date is announced, the first two seasons are available for rewatch on Netflix.
