Argylle’s Henry Cavill Gets Candid on Sex Scenes: ‘Is This Really Necessary?’

Although the principle must be working because people keep doing it instead of switching to another strategy, it can be quite tiring. Not just for consumers, but for those who work on the other side of the screen. Sex scenes are time-consuming, awkward to shoot, and can feel intrusive no matter how many intimacy coordinators are on set.

Worst of all, there are many situations where the human imagination would have done just as well. This is what Henry Cavill, the star of the DCEU and former Geralt of Rivia, believes.

The actor opened up about the intimate scenes during his visit to Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote his latest film, Argylle, which premiered February 2, 2024.

“I think there are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie rather than just the audience. I think sometimes they’re overused these days. It’s when you have a sense that you’re going ‘Is this really necessary? Or is it just people with less clothing on?’ and that’s where you start to get more uncomfortable,” the actor shared.

Are There Any Sex Scenes in Argylle?

Although Cavill admits that there are some instances where the scene of intimacy between two characters might reveal some important details and be valuable to the storytelling, more often than not it is used as a shock factor to get a reaction to someone's naked body. And that does not improve the quality of the movie at all.

Does this mean that the hundreds of thousands of fans of Henry Cavill around the world should never hope to see him in a scene like this again? Probably not.
