Alicent Hightower Deserves Better: Fans Are Convinced HOTD Show Did Her Dirty

House Of The Dragon, being a spin-off to the Game Of Thrones series, quickly grabbed the attention of both hardcore books fans and TV show enjoyers.
While the show has faced a fair amount of criticism of how they handled time jumps and cast changes, overall the reaction was overwhelmingly great.
The show was renewed for season 2 shockingly fast, and now it is already in production.
Now that season 1 has fully aired, those who were getting very into the story got their chance to re-watch it, analyze it, and catch up with the books to see how the original story went.
While looking for clues of what fans may get in the upcoming season, they stumble upon some differences that seem to be very intentional by the show writers.
Some of them make total sense, and others are questionable to the point where they spark a debate.
Alicent Hightower, being the second wife to King Viserys I Targaryen, which makes her a queen consort for the whole season 1 of the show, might be just the most controversial figure of all.
The viewers seem to be divided on her, either despising her ways or saying she deserves better than this. S
eeing how different she is portrayed in contrast to her husband in the series, makes more fans believe the writers intentionally made the character less likable.
"I think the showrunners thought viewers would be naturally more sympathetic to a child bride who has no choice but to bare the children of this aging monarch," Redditor Good_old_Marshmallow said, noting that Alicent seems more faulty of her children's failures only in comparison to the King.
As he's been made a deeply flawed sympathetic character, it seems like fans became more prone to side with him and forgive some of his mistakes.
In the books, however, it was pretty clear that he was the one to blame for what happened. Alicent does not get it so easy in fandom, even considering her fragile position and young age.
Whether or not Alicent would keep her stance further on, the viewers will find out in season 2 of House Of The Dragon.
There is no official release date yet, however judging by the fact that the filming started in March of this year, it won't be out until 2024.
