The brightest witch of her generation could have clearly come up with a solution that ended up being provided by... Neville Longbottom.

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry unwillingly gets dragged into the Triwizard tournament. His second task is to submerge into the deep waters of the nearby lake and try and save his friends, but in order to do that, he has to find out how to breathe underwater for a whole hour.

Before the task, he, Ron and Hermione are brainstorming in the library, and Hermione is clearly struggling. In the end, Harry receives unexpected advice from... Neville Longbottom, who is notoriously into various plants.

Naturally, Neville's advice was more than helpful... but how on Earth did Hermione not know about the most obvious choice — the bubble head charm?

"It's not a rare or difficult charm and is commonly practiced in the next year by nearly all the students in the halls between classes. Since Hermione seems to be constantly ahead of the game I simply cannot believe she could not stumble across this particular spell. Am I the only one who found this frustrating?" Redditor vegdre wondered.

However, according to other fans, Hermione's lack of knowledge about the spell was understandable. One fan argued that the spell became common after the entire school saw it in use during the second task.

"Kind of fits with something Lupin said about "Levicorpus" and how it was extremely popular while he was in school. He explains in book 6 that spells frequently go in and out of style," another fan added.

Others suggested that Fleur might have used a spell that was common in France but not so much in the United Kingdom, which is why Hermione did not know about it. However, Cedric Diggory also used it — with some fans alleging that the spell is maybe a part of the 7 year's school curriculum, which was too early for Hermione back at the time.

Still, no matter the reason, ever Hermione Granger can make mistakes sometimes. After all, aren't other witches also allowed to shine when it comes to clever usage of spells?
