A Surprising Connection Between 'Stranger Things' And 'Harry Potter', According To Finn Wolfhard
Netflix's coming-of-age teen mystery show has been steadily airing for six years, and its fanbase is growing exponentially. Much has been said about the series' similarities to other movies and TV series, but Finn Wolfhard has a particularly curious alternative to compare 'Stranger Things' to: 'Harry Potter'.
The 80s atmosphere reminding fans of their favorite childhood films like 'E.T.' or 'The Goonies' doesn't really have anything in common with British wizarding fantasy, but Wolfhard actually does have a point. He speaks of similarities not in the atmosphere, but in the franchises' similar approach to the growth its young stars go through on screen. Beginning as feel-good yet eerie entries, the respected series grew darker with each new installment.
"I think inherently it becomes darker every season. It also gets funnier, it gets scarier, it gets more dramatic. That comes with all of us growing up and getting older. I think this is a very good example of the Duffers treating our characters like their ages. And I like to compare it to Harry Potter – those movies became darker [the longer they went] and that's kind of where we're at now in the progression, in my opinion", Wolfhard told Screen Rant.
It looks like something interesting is in store for fans in the upcoming season. The latest trailer proves that the 'dark' story continues, and truly creepy monsters and difficult problems will be a major part of season 4.
'Stranger Things ' season 4 premiers on Netflix May 27, 2022.
