7 Must-Watch Fantasy TV Shows Coming to Netflix in 2024
Netflix has something for all fantasy buffs this year.
There are several fascinating fantasy series coming to Netflix in 2024 that we're going to talk about today.
7. Avatar: The Last Airbender
Release Date: February 22, 2024
Fans of Avatar: The Airbender, the original animated series by Michael Dante DiMartino and Brian Konieczko, are particularly concerned: DiMartino and Konieczko were originally executive producers but walked away from the project over creative differences.
Unlike M. Night Shyamalan 's film, this adaptation attempts to stay true to the original, respectfully portraying Asian and Native American-inspired fantasy cultures. The story will tell of the nations divided by the four elements — water, earth, fire and air — whose peace has been trampled by the imperial ambitions of the Fire Nation. As a result, the only one who can restore peace is the master of all four elements, the Avatar, played by Gordon Cormier.
6. Dead Boy Detectives
Release Date: April 25, 2024
Created by Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant ), Dead Boy Detectives will be a spin-off from the Netflix adaptation of The Sandman. The characters, introduced in the original comic book, were created by Neil Gaiman himself. They are a detective duo made up of two dead teenagers, one of whom was murdered in the early 20th century. After Hell was emptied, he returned to Earth where he met a living high school student who was also killed shortly thereafter. Together, they refused to follow Death into the afterlife and decided to go on dangerous supernatural adventures as friends.
5. Sweet Home, Season 3
Release Date: Summer, 2024
Fans of the horror genre should definitely check out South Korean productions, and a good place to start is Sweet Home. South Korean action-horror drama, based on the webtoon of the same name by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan, follows a high school student trapped with other residents in an apartment complex, filled with 'monsterized' victims whose new forms have become the embodiment of their inner demons.
4. Arcane, Season 2
Release Date: November, 2024
We've been waiting for it. The long-awaited sequel to one of the best fantasy series and definitely one of the best animated projects of all time is coming this year! Arcane, a series set in the world of League of Legends that instantly captivated both fans of the Riot Games video game and casual viewers alike, will return to continue the stories of Vi, Jinx, Jayce, Viktor, Caitlyn, and other familiar in-game and original characters.
3. Devil May Cry
Release Date: TBD
Also coming out this year is an animated adaptation of another video game, Capcom's iconic Devil May Cry series, which follows the adventures of Dante, a cocky half-demon who hunts down other demons. Expect great action scenes, witty one-liners from the stylish red-capped protagonist, metal and electronic music, and powerful animation from Studio Mir.
2. Alice in Borderland, Season 3
Release Date: TBD
Combine survivor horror franchises like Cube, Battle Royal and Squid Game and you get Alice in Borderland, a Japanese live-action series based on the manga of the same name by Haro Aso. The plot follows ordinary Japanese people who are coerced by an unseen force to compete in dangerous games in which the loser is executed by laser. A third season was announced last December.
1. The Rats
Release Date: TBD
Finally, The Witcher spin-off The Rats, a prequel dedicated to the young gang of criminals who rescued Ciri at the end of Season 3, will be released later this year. Many fans of Andrzej Sapkowski's books don't see the point of this series, especially after the failed Blood Origin, but it's possible we're in for a decent fantasy.
