6 Reasons Why TWD Fans Think Dead City Missed the Mark
The Walking Dead: Dead City was great, but…
The Walking Dead: Dead City aired its final episode on Sunday. If you haven’t checked it out yet, go ahead and do it.
But if you did, we bet you've made up your mind about whether it was a hit or a miss. Lots of fans have been sharing their thoughts too — some praising the show, while others have been a bit more critical.
While there were definitely some cool things about the show, let's also take a peek at the parts that didn't sit well with the fans in The Walking Dead spinoff.
Questionable Choices
One of the main gripes fans had was with the character decisions. The show raised questions among the fans right in the beginning.
Why would characters like Negan and Maggie leave the safety and comfort of a thriving settlement to try to survive on their own in a dangerous environment? This seemed out of character and was a tough pill for fans to swallow.
Predictability Prevails
Fans also expressed disappointment with the predictability of the plot. They felt that the storyline was too obvious and lacked the subtlety and complexity they craved.
This refers to the plot twist about Maggie having a deal with the Croat. This twist was easily predictable since the very first episode.
Annoying Kids
Both Ginny and Hershel managed to spark some controversy. Ginny divided the fanbase with her “mysterious and disobedient mute kid” persona, while Hershel showed how “grateful” he is to his mother for saving him in the finale.
Missed Opportunities for World Building
Set in the sprawling metropolis of New York City, Dead City had a golden opportunity to delve into the unique challenges and adaptations of surviving in a densely populated area overrun by zombies.
Unfortunately, fans felt that the show didn't fully explore this potential, leaving them wanting more.
The Same Old Story
Another criticism was the overuse of familiar tropes. The "kidnapped character" and "rescue mission" plotlines have been done to death, and fans were hoping for more original and risky storytelling. It's time to shake things up a bit.
Lackluster Characterization
Finally, fans were disappointed with the lack of development for main characters, particularly Maggie. They wanted to see her take more noteworthy actions and evolve as a character. After all, strong and compelling characters are the backbone of any successful show.
