6 New Crime Movies Streaming on Netflix in December 2023

For the second half of 2023, Netflix 's library has been updated with six intriguing releases that work with the crime drama, action and psychological thriller genres. Let's take a look at these new releases.

6. Freestyle

Freestyle could be described as the Polish take on 8 Mile, as it is a crime action drama imbued with the spirit of underground hip-hop. The plot follows Diego, an aspiring rapper recently out of the drug underworld and rehab. His and his friend Maka's dream is to work their way to the top of the rap industry, but it takes money to make it happen. As much as the guys try to live an honest life, they agree to a quick tempting deal with the Slovakian mafia — to smuggle a huge amount of coke.

5. The Black Book

Release date (Netflix): September 22

IMDb rating: 5.2/10

Rotten Tomatoes score (audience): 67%

Nollywood (Nigerian movie industry) is relatively new to global audiences, but each of its films, while not always a masterpiece of cinematography and acting, delivers decent scripts and ideas. The Black Book follows a former hitman turned deacon in the service of God. However, he must return to his former activities to avenge his son, who was senselessly murdered by the protagonist's former boss as a result of political intrigue.

4. Reptile

Release date (Netflix): September 29

IMDb rating: 6.8/10

Rotten Tomatoes score: 45%

Puerto Rican heartthrob Benicio del Toro co-wrote the screenplay with Benjamin Brewer and Grant Singer (the latter making his feature film directorial debut) and stars alongside the likes of Justin Timberlake, Alicia Silverstone, Eric Bogosian, Ato Essandoh, Domenick Lombardozzi and Michael Pitt.

Reptile is a classic gritty detective story with plenty of suspense and unexpected twists. Although critics panned the film, with the exception of the acting, audiences loved it and Reptile was the most-watched English-language film on Netflix in October.

3. Khufiya

Release date (Netflix): October 5

IMDb rating: 6.0/10

Rotten Tomatoes score: 63%

The plot of this Hindi-language spy thriller follows an operative of India's Research & Analysis Wing, Krishna Mehra, who must find the mole responsible for leaking India's data to Bangladesh and even the American CIA. A unique feature of this movie is that the protagonist is one of the few Indian lesbian characters, and in the story she mourns the murder of her lover and R&AW employee as a result of the aforementioned intrigues.

2. Locked In

Release date (Netflix): November 1

IMDb rating: 5.1/10

Rotten Tomatoes score: 29%

The film's writer, Rowan Joffe, produced the critically acclaimed crime drama Tin Star, starring Tim Roth. Despite the success of that project, his new work, Locked In, starring Famke Janssen, Rose Williams and Finn Cole, turned out to be a slight letdown.

Still, it is a typical representative of a TV movie, and it is not a bad thing at all, being a good option to brighten up the evening. The plot follows a paralyzed patient who tries to communicate with a nurse by blinking to tell a macabre story of murder and betrayal within her family.

Rounding out our list is David Fincher and screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker 's new project, The Killer. The plot revolves around a cold-blooded assassin (Michael Fassbender) with no remorse who seeks retirement but finds himself at the epicenter of major geopolitical shifts.

Audiences and critics praised the excellent portrayal of the neurodivergent protagonist. However, many felt that the film's narrow and boring script could not be saved even by Fassbender himself.
