Netflix has had some great K-dramas land recently, and we are not just talking about Doctor Cha. Yes, that show was brilliant. But it's just the tip of the iceberg of amazing medical dramas to watch from South Korea.
Here are six you can stream on Netflix right now.
1. Hospital Playlist
IMDB rating 8.8/10
Hospital Playlist seems to blend the medical drama genre with romantic comedy so effortlessly that it's always enjoyable to watch, even when things get emotional. Focusing on five doctors who have been friends since medical school, the series follows their lives as they navigate work, friendships, and romance. They each have their own struggles and triumphs, and the leads are such wonderful actors that you can't help but get swept up in their daily adventures.
2. Daily Dose of Sunshine
IMDB rating 8.3/10
A talented third-year nurse at a university hospital faces a challenge when she is transferred from internal medicine to the psychiatric ward. The series focuses on her interactions with her patients, colleagues and friends, and the impact she has on those around her. Her kind nature and hardworking attitude inevitably have a positive effect on others, but sometimes she struggles to see it herself. A sweet and endearing watch.
3. Live Up to Your Name
IMDB rating 8/10
A brilliant yet controversial doctor of the Joseon period secretly treats the nobility. His methods, mainly acupuncture, may not have the best reputation, but they work, and he becomes the secret physician of the elite. Eventually, he is assigned to cure the king of migraines. Unfortunately, his nerves overcome him, and he fails in this crucial task. Accused of treason, he is hunted down and presumably killed. Then he awakens in our modern era and befriends a talented surgeon. Will their 400-year cultural difference be an obstacle to true love?
4. Chocolate
IMDB rating 7.6/10
Chocolate is a charming and heartwarming drama that reminds us of the profound impact we can have on others, even to the point of shaping their entire career and destiny. A man has dreamed of becoming a chef all his life, growing up in his mother's restaurant in a picturesque seaside town.
One day, he cooks a meal for a young girl, and she loves it so much that she sets out to become a chef herself. The man takes a different path and becomes a neurosurgeon. When their paths cross again many years later, they have a lot of catching up to do. You will need your tissues for this series.
5. Life
IMDB rating 7.5/10
What happens when a doctor who puts his patients first meets a new hospital CEO with very different ideas? This show, that's what.
Life is dialog heavy, but written so cleverly that you won't miss a word. It will often let you see both sides of any debate, which only makes it more realistic to watch. And the sense of investment you will have in each outcome is amazing.
6. It’s Okay to Not Be Okay
IMDB rating 8.6/10
This is another drama you will need your tissues for. A kind man who takes care of his autistic older brother also works as a caregiver in a psychiatric ward. They move around a lot, but he keeps the same job wherever they go.
Eventually, the brothers return to their childhood town, where he is reunited with a famous children's author who many believe has serious psychological problems. She has developed a romantic obsession with him and has followed him to the city. Despite the ominous and stalker-like undertones, this is actually a very sweet romantic comedy about healing.
