The platform's library is regularly stocked with excellent K-dramas, both TV premieres and Netflix originals. Here's a list of the six great Korean dramas released in 2023 and available on Netflix right now.
6. Agency (16 episodes)
Release date: January 17
IMDb rating: 7.8/10
Agency is a workplace drama about the behind-the-scenes world of the Korean advertising industry. The female lead grew up in poverty but managed to become the first female executive of a leading advertising agency. Along the way, she encounters both the resistance of arrogant people who have inherited important positions and the experience of other employees who are willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.
5. Love to Hate You (10 episodes)
Release date: February 10
IMDb rating: 7.9/10
Love to Hate You, which was released on Netflix earlier this year, was instantly embraced by even the most picky of fans. This is all thanks to a very self-aware script that humorously pokes fun at both misogyny in Korean society and other rom-coms built on similar tropes.
The plot revolves around a free-thinking, sex-positive woman with a strong sense of justice who can't stand (and beats the hell out of) men for their prejudices. Fate forces her to take a job at a male-dominated law firm, where a client becomes her new target, a top actor who, at first glance, is a typical jerk and chauvinist.
4. Divorce Attorney Shin (12 episodes)
Release date: March 4
IMDb rating: 7.5/10
Even today, divorce in South Korea is still viewed with some prejudice and even condemnation due to the post-Confucian mindset, but Korean society is not standing still and more and more people are willing to take such a step. The protagonist is a former pianist who becomes a divorce lawyer and is willing to do anything to protect his clients.
3. Miraculous Brothers (16 episodes)
Release date: June 28
IMDb rating: 7.6/10
Despite its supernatural premise, Miraculous Brothers is a drama in every sense of the word. The plot follows the story of friendship, empathy and understanding between a struggling writer, living in debt and scraping by on part-time jobs, and a mysterious boy who has lost his memory but can feel pain and read other people's minds.
2. Celebrity (12 episodes)
Release date: June 30
IMDb rating: 7.4/10
Celebrity is a fascinating drama-thriller that exposes the hypocrisy and cynicism of the entire Korean influencer industry. The protagonist, played by Park Gyu-young, is a makeup saleswoman who suddenly finds herself caught up in the luxurious world of the rich and famous, exposing their fraud, harassment, and even murder.
1. Song of the Bandits (9 episodes)
Release date: September 22
IMDb rating: 7.2/10
Song of the Bandits is a new Korean take on the Western genre, set in the historical context of Korea. The attempt has already been made by Kim Jee-woon, who directed The Good, the Bad, the Weird, but that movie was more of an adventure spoof, while the new K-drama is a serious story. The new show is an epic period piece that tells the story of Koreans fleeing the Japanese occupation to the border region in Northern China called Gando. The protagonist, along with other characters, is forced to survive in the lawless land and also fight back against the Japanese Imperial Army.
