5 The Sopranos Characters That Were Killed Off Too Soon
The show was different without them.
One of the most acclaimed TV shows ever created is definitely The Sopranos. The series premiered in 1999 and had a long run until it ended in 2007. At the center of the show is the Soprano family, with Tony Soprano as the main character. He is a mob boss who has to juggle many different things at once.
Besides Tony, there are many other characters, both from the Mafia reality and from the "outside" world. A lot of them stayed for the entire run of the show, but there were some relevant characters who were forced to leave at some point.
Now we feel that if these 5 characters had stayed longer, the show would have only succeeded.
1. Jimmy Altieri
Not the most important character for the whole show, but definitely worth mentioning here. He was killed for a very bizarre reason, which makes his death that much sadder, even though we didn't know a lot about him.
The thing is, Tony thought he was an FBI informant, but he was probably just in denial about Big Pussy being the real rat. And even though Altieri was killed, we never got to know if he was really selling out the Mafia to the cops or if he was innocent.
2. Bobby Baccalieri Sr.
It’s not a common story for a character to become a fan favorite after just one appearance in the entire show, but Bobby Baccalieri Sr. managed to succeed that much. An old gangster, he was presented with the opportunity to execute one more kill, knowing that it probably would be his last one, since he was a senior citizen slowly dying from lung cancer.
Baccalieri Sr. had to kill Mustang Sally, but he also killed his roommate just for the thrill of it. And then he tragically died smoking his last cigarette while driving his car. Fans of the show just wish they could have seen more of the character, probably his young gangster days, and are sure he would have been epic.
3. Vik Makazian
When we first see Vik, and frankly in some of his subsequent appearances, he seems like a regular dirty cop with nothing much to discover about him. But later we realize that there was more to him than that. In reality, he was a lonely, depressed man suffering from various addictions.
Vik was desperate to make friends, which is why he was so eager to make Tony's acquaintance and wanted to make it up to him by proving that Sal was a rat. Vik was arrested in a brothel, which meant he would lose everything. So he decided that killing himself was a better option and tragically left the show.
4. Gloria Trillo
The only female character in the list, Gloria was Tony’s lover for a brief moment, but even in these several episodes she managed to provide the series with a certain charm and… craziness. Well, in fact, it was later proved that she was mentally unstable.
The woman loved creating drama for no reason, and what initially made Tony like her personality and be attracted to her, later just annoyed him so much that he was forced to leave her. Still that wasn’t easy, because of her manipulative moves. At the end, Gloria commits suicide, not being able to handle the rejection.
5. Big Pussy
Big Pussy's storyline is one of the most devastating. His murder was the exact moment in the entire show that proved how paranoid and troubled Tony was.
Pussy was part of the gang, he was a close friend, and to find out that your "family" is selling you out to the cops must be hard. So in the eyes of the mobster, they were forced to deal with the situation the only way they knew how.
