Baby Reindeer is a real phenomenon, but there are other projects that are no less gripping,

There's still a lot of buzz surrounding Richard Gadd's Netflix miniseries Baby Reindeer. The comedian and screenwriter translated the personal traumatic experience of a stalking victim into the format of a dramatic thriller with elements of comedy and true crime.

The phenomenal success of the series has been going on for a month now, and the real events are becoming overgrown with details and speculation.

If you are looking for something no less intense and at the same time based on real events, then these movies and TV series are for you.

1. Scoop, 2024

In 2019, BBC television employee Sam McAlister went in search of another big story for Newsnight. The scandal surrounding Jeffrey Epstein, who was arrested on charges of trafficking minors, forced the company to recall the events of previous years, when a photo of Prince Andrew on a walk with Epstein was first published.

McAlister was able to contact Amanda Thirsk, the prince's assistant. She soon receives permission to conduct an exclusive interview that will have irreversible consequences.

Scoop, directed by Philip Martin, chronicles the process of creating a controversial interview. Prince Andrew's conversation with journalist Emily Maitlis became the most popular broadcast of the program – it caused a huge amount of social condemnation and led to shocking results.

2. Reality, 2023

In June 2017, Reality Winner, a translator for the Secret Service, spotted FBI agents near her home. They asked her if there were people inside, inquired about her well-being, and allowed her to take her dog outside. The woman complied with all the agents' requests.

During the interrogation, the reason for the FBI's visit becomes clear – the girl is accused of leaking classified information about Russian interference in the US presidential election to the news publication The Intercept.

Reality is the debut film of director Tina Satter. It is based on a recording of the interrogation, reproduced with documentary accuracy. This is not the first time that Satter has turned to the story of Reality – in 2019, the director used a transcript of a voice recording to create a theatrical performance. The production was a great success and was even shown on Broadway.

3. Inventing Anna, 2022

Inventing Anna is dedicated to the crazy and scandalous story of Anna Sorokin. The swindler moved to New York and posed as the heiress to a multimillion-dollar fortune, a certain Anna Delvey, in order to infiltrate the city's high society. The deception was not immediately discovered – only a few years later was the woman arrested and accused of fraud.

An article about Sorokin in New York magazine forced many readers to take the side of the swindler – she did not defraud poor citizens, but the offsprings of billionaires. The series was shot with the same attitude – it is a portrait of a misunderstood and talented woman who staged a rebellion against class inequality.

4. Five Days at Memorial, 2022

Patients at a New Orleans hospital are cut off from the world by devastating Hurricane Katrina. While waiting to be evacuated, the hospital's doctors have been caring for their patients for several days, making extraordinary decisions and superhuman efforts.

The series does not focus on the excuses of the authorities and the reasons for their total administrative failure, but shows the consequences – emotional and unvarnished. The only driving force here is the people, a kaleidoscope of their suffering and the unbearable conditions in which they find themselves due to nature and man's inability to cope with it.

5. Society of the Snow, 2023

In October 1972, the Uruguayan rugby team was flying to Chile with friends and family. Not far from Santiago, the plane unexpectedly entered a cyclone and began to rapidly lose altitude. Many passengers died during the crash, but 28 people survived.

Unfortunately, the worst was yet to come – the athletes and their friends had to live for several months in harsh conditions without heat sources, food or medicine. With each passing day, the hope of a miraculous rescue grew more remote. A few weeks later, starvation forced the passengers to make a terrible choice.

Society of the Snow is a drama by Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona that tells the true story of the tragedy in the Andes. The movie was filmed at the crash site.
