Are you exhausted after losing your fifth Honour-mode game in a row but still don’t want to leave the magical world of Baldur’s Gate 3? Check out these golden classics.

5. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

The Holy Grail has truly been the Holy Grail of the adventure and fantasy genres for centuries, hasn’t it? So it would only make sense that the legendary King Arthur and his Knights would want to get their hands on it. Unfortunately, they live in low-budget times; fortunately, they’re fun-loving folks always ready for a truly goofy journey.

Search as you will, but Monty Python and the Holy Grail is the pinnacle of blending high fantasy and comedy that remains one of the best gold classics even the modern audience adores. Your average D&D party vibes come with the package.

4. Excalibur (1981)

While we’re talking about King Arthur still, it wouldn’t be wise to overlook Excalibur. Chronologically, it takes place before the events of Monty Python as we get to watch the future King unite the Britons and defeat the dark forces in real-time. An epic and dramatic tale, it surely features a very different version of Arthur Pendragon.

If you didn’t play Baldur’s Gate 3 as a Bard and prefer a more serious, paladin-style adventure, Excalibur is your go-to movie. It’s still fun to mix it with the previous one, though, as this power duo genuinely defines the two core types of D&D players.

3. The Beastmaster (1982)

After his hometown is ruthlessly destroyed, a young warrior begins his journey in search of revenge. Unfortunately for his foes, he’s no average Joe but a Beastmaster who wields supernatural powers and uses animals as allies and spies. The Beastmaster will find every last offender and serve them justice or die himself.

Old-school and very D&D, The Beastmaster is a classic tale with magic, monsters, brutal fights, and the general vibe of the fantasy genre we lost until Baldur’s Gate came around. Here’s to your next playthrough as a Druid, by the way.

2. Conan the Destroyer (1984)

We all know and love Conan the Barbarian. But what happens to him when he builds a solid adventuring party, pumps his muscles up even more, and sets off on a journey for a princess? He becomes Conan the Destroyer, and gods help you if you dare stand in his way. Better to step back, relax, and watch the chaos unfold.

Conan the Barbarian series is a classic epic fantasy, but Conan the Destroyer in particular has the strongest D&D adventuring party vibes. It also explains just how OP Barbarians are, so make sure to team up with Karlach next time around.

1. Willow (1988)

If you’ve read through this list and found yourself upset by no name-dropping, here it is: Willow was written by George Lucas, and it implies exactly what you think it implies. A young farmer is on a quest to protect a very special baby from an evil queen, and the clash of Dark and Light magic is inevitable. Told you, it’s Lucas!

We’ve made it this far without dark witches as primary antagonists, but let’s face it: we’re here for Baldur’s Gate 3 and all things D&D, so it couldn’t last forever. Willow is a great movie to turn you back to the good side after that sick Dark Urge playthrough you just finished.
