5 Lesser Known Horror Movies Begging For Your Attention
These horror gems did not really get much attention at the time, but they are definitely worth checking out if you are looking for something new in the genre.
Horror is an incredibly hit and miss genre, with tons of movies coming out every year and the majority of them being pretty mediocre if not outright bad.
And with so much content to choose from, it's to be expected that sometimes really great movies don't make it to the masses.
So here are five great horror movies that you might not have heard of, and that you should definitely check out if you're a fan of the genre.
Saint Maud (2019)
A great blend of body horror and psychological thriller, this story follows a nurse who, after a tragic incident, takes the name Maud and devotes herself entirely to religion.
As she becomes increasingly zealous in her quest to help a dying choreographer under her care, viewers will wonder if what is happening is the result of Maud's deteriorating mind or a supernatural aspect taking place.
The Ritual (2017)
A British horror about a group of hikers who encounter something malevolent on their trip to a Swedish forest, it has a great atmosphere of lurking terror.
It also has ties to Norse mythology, so if you are into that, this is a movie for you.
Possessor (2020)
Directed by Brandon Cronenberg, son of the legendary David Cronenberg, this sci-fi movie is definitely on par with his famous father's body horror works.
It revolves around an assassin who takes control of the people around her target in order to complete her missions, and has some truly disturbing gore in typical Cronenberg fashion.
Bone Tomahawk (2015)
This one is particularly unique in that it starts out as a classic western, only to make a sudden jump into horror territory halfway through.
Starring Kurt Russell and Patrick Wilson as members of a group sent to get rid of a cannibalistic Native American tribe, it also features some truly disgusting and gruesome scenes.
Barbarian (2022)
Starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long, the story revolves around a mysterious evil that lives in the basement of a rented house.
To go into details would only spoil the plot, but be prepared for your expectations to be completely undermined.
