5 Changes That Would’ve Made Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life So Much Better, Ranked
Some revival shows are a blessing, and others are a curse – unfortunately, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is definitely the latter.
Gilmore Girls fans craved a sequel for years, but when they finally got one, they wished they hadn’t. Here are five reasons A Year in the Life has disappointed viewers big time (according to Reddit).
5. The Gap Doesn’t Make Sense
The revival show takes place a decade after the events of the last season, however, the storylines seem like they would be better fitted to happen a year or two later instead. Why on Earth does Rory act so immaturely when she is a grown-ass woman in her 30s? Why aren’t Lorelai and Luke happily married with kids? So many questions, so few answers.
4. Lorelai and Luke Aren’t Married
Speaking of, Lorelai and Luke’s slowburn relationship has always kept a flame going in the fans’ hearts, but the fact that they aren’t married 10 years into the future feels like a slap in the face. Still, the absence of a wedding can be forgiven, but the writers have even made them avoid the topic of having more children for all these years, which is just ridiculous.
3. Rory Is a Mean Girl Now
Rory has made some questionable choices ever since her early teens, yet she has always remained a kind-hearted person all throughout. In the revival, she is acting bratty and catty, looking down on people who are less fortunate than her and making weird passive-aggressive comments to her loved ones. Fans don’t appreciate this.
2. Rory Cheats on Paul with Logan
You would think that Rory has learned her lesson about cheating with a married (or almost married) man from that Dean fiasco – apparently, that’s too much to ask of her. It’s wrong to cheat with a man who’s about to walk down the aisle, but it’s even more wrong to cheat on your boyfriend of two years who you keep forgetting. Poor Paul!
1. The Final Words Aren’t Rory’s to Say
The surprise announcement in the finale has always been the way Amy Sherman-Palladino wanted to end the show. It’s just Rory wasn’t supposed to be the one to make the announcement – Lorelai was. The pregnancy arc would’ve been a great cyclical conclusion to Lorelai’s story (and a way to give her and Luke a child) in the original show, but it doesn’t work at all with Rory getting knocked up in her 30s. Not even remotely as profound.
