These couples deserved their happily ever after.

Gossip Girl is first and foremost a show about friendship and love, so there was a lot of drama, and even more painful breakups.

There were many couples on the show, like Serena and Aaron, that were obviously doomed from the start. But what about the couples that fans relentlessly supported, but they didn't live up to expectations?

1. Nate and Serena

Even those who were rooting for Serena and Dan were upset when Nate and Serena went their separate ways. These two were perfect for each other and could be a happy family. Nate had been trying to get Serena’s attention since season one, so when she finally decided to give him a chance, many viewers were happy for the couple.

However, they eventually broke up, which again made us feel sorry for poor Archibald, who was left completely alone.

2. Chuck and Blair

Every time they broke up, it was like a knife in the heart of the fans. The viewers hoped that Chuck and Blair would finally stop bullying each other and live a quiet life, but no. With their "from love to hate" relationship, these two deserved the title of the most toxic couple of the project. But we kept rooting for them no matter what.

3. Rufus and Lily

When Rufus and Lily got married, we thought they were literally the best couple on the show. So when the characters broke up at the end of season five, fans continued to hope that Humphrey and Van Der Woodsen would still get back together.

However, in the final episode, it became clear that the characters not only stayed apart, but also got together with other people. Worst ending ever for them.

4. Jonathan and Eric

The guys started dating in the second season and stayed together for quite a long time. Their relationship was so intimate and hidden from others that even Gossip Girl didn't get involved.

When Jenny became the Queen of Constance, Eric tried to knock her off the pedestal. The plan failed and Jonathan, frustrated by his boyfriend’s actions, breaks up with him. It's a shame that their relationship has come to an end, as they could have been the most stable couple on the show.
